Y’de - Two batches of cadet officers have finally graduated from the combined services military accademy, EMIA, after waiting mnay years. The graduation had been delayed because of the unavailability of President Paul Biya for the event. The two groups were code-named “Peace and Modernity” and “Army and Nation” Batches.

“Obviously, these two names remind you of your missions as officers,” said Biya. “The first is a strong reminder of the natural vocation for the Army to remain at the service of the lofty ideal of Peace which guarantees stability.

“The second reaffirms the umbilical cord that links the Army to the Nation and constitutes one of the key foundations of our defence policy.

“In one or the other case, your status of Officer commits you to the compelling duty to defend our beautiful country against all forms of aggression that may undermine the security of our fellow-citizens, national unity and territorial integrity, at the risk of your life, wherenecessary.

“This is a challenge. Only your unshakable faith in the cardinal values that constitute the basis of our society, and in particular those that call for the exercise of a military career, will enable you to meet that challenge.
