Mobile_PhonePrices expected to fall as providers rise to 5

YAOUNDE—Two new mobile telephone companies will be licensed in Cameroon in the coming months, the post and telecoms minister announced Tuesday.

Cameroon already has two mobile operators and several internet services providers but national coverage is still partial.

Bello Bouba said the arrivals will help push down call prices which now range from CFA89 to CFA140 per minute.

Cameroon has a population of over 19 million but only about 7 million mobile telephone subscribers with MTN taking up the lion’s share.

Cameroon is currently laying some 30,000km of optic fibres to boost mobile and internet communication in the country.
