YAOUNDE—Starting June 4, the cost of American  visas will more than double for certain visa-types following a general increase in fees announced by the United State embassy in Yaounde.
The upward revision of fees is intended to meet up with the additional cost of using more advanced and money consuming visa processing technologies, said the embassy’s head of consular services, Steven B. Royte.

The US embassy has now-and-then raised the cost of obtaining visas over the past ten years but demand continues to be huge, Mr Royte said at a press briefing last week.

All types of visas currently cost a flat rate of $131 (about CFA 69,900) but applicants who fall in the category of big businesspeople will soon pay as much as $390 (about CFA208,000).

The more common study and tourist visas will cost slightly more expensive at $140 or about CFA 7,000 while the cost of a work visa has jumped up to &150 or about CFA79,700. Hold $350 or about CFA186,000 if you plan to apply for a visa for a fiancé.
