YAOUNDE—A boat transporting traders and families travelling to a weeding capsized in strong winds, killing 11 people on the Benue river in northern Cameroon Sunday. Dozens more were missing and feared dead. Eyewitnesses said the wooden vessel was overloaded when it set off and probably picked more passengers on its way.Victims were mostly women and children. Monday, security forces and villagers were still combing the waters, where only bodies were being found. Local administrative authorities have been to the area to coordinate the search effort. Boat wrecks are rare on the river. Other voyageurs said the river was particularly turbulent on the night of the accident, with strong winds beating. It is assumed that the boat was tossed out of control.
