lion_in_Kenya_campCameroon and Olympic Marseille midfielder, Stephane Mbia Etoundi has been robbed while on pre-AFCON training in Nairobi,Kenya, RFI reported early Friday.

The alleged thieves made away with Mbia’s jewelry pack from the hotel, the French radio network said. The exact value of the stolen property was not declared.

This burglary is not the first suffered by a member of the Cameroon football team out on national assignment.

At 2004 AFCON hosted by Tunisia, keeper Idriss Carlos Kameni and midfielder Geremi Soreil Njitap lost huge sums of money and jewelry to thieves who broke into their hotel room while they were taking part at a training session.

Repeated cases of burglary around the Indomitable Lions often raise questions about the security around the team while out of the country.

The Lions have been fine-tuning their tactics in the Nairobi since Tuesday 5 January 2010.

After a planned warm-up game against the Kenyan national team on Saturday, Paul Le Guen and his boys will leave for Lubango where they take on the Panthers of Gabon on 13 January in their first group game.

Meantime two days to the competition’s kick-off, Joel Matip is yet to join the squad in camp. The African Football Confederation officials said the 18 year old could be replaced only if he were injured.

Head coach Paul Le Guen has said he could face the competition with the 22 players already in camp, indicating that the team is already coming to terms with the probable absence of Matip.

Meantime, keeper Idriss Carlos Kameni and half back Alexandre Song Bilong who were suffering from minor injuries are reported to have resumed training last evening.
